Tableau AI Guidelines for Use

GTA recognizes Tableau AI as a business intelligence tool that integrates AI-powered data insights and analytics. It helps visualize trends, identify key insights, and make data-driven decisions.

Guidelines

  • Purpose and Use

Tableau AI can be used for analyzing large datasets, generating reports, and identifying
insights for decision-making. It is particularly useful for understanding patterns in
public service data, budgeting, and performance tracking.

  • Data Privacy and Security

Agencies using Tableau AI must ensure that any data uploaded to the system complies
with data protection laws. PII, sensitive, or classified information must be handled in
accordance with government data security standards, including encryption and access
    controls.

  • Interpretation of Results

The insights generated by Tableau AI should be treated as recommendations rather than
definitive conclusions. Human analysis is required to interpret AI-driven analytics,
especially in complex cases that require policy, legal, or ethical considerations.

  • Transparency in Decision-Making

When Tableau AI insights contribute to decision-making processes, it should be clearly
documented how the AI-generated insights were used and how final decisions were
made. This ensures transparency and accountability.

  • Bias and Fairness

Agencies should routinely audit the data used in Tableau AI to ensure that the AI models
do not perpetuate bias. Special attention should be given to data involving public
services, ensuring fairness and equity across different population groups.

Prohibited Uses

  • Making Policy Decisions Based Solely on AI Insights

Tableau AI cannot be used as the sole decision-making tool for creating or modifying
government policies. Human analysis must always supplement AI-driven insights,
particularly for complex decisions that require legal, ethical, or policy considerations.

  • Using Incomplete or Biased Data

Tableau AI cannot be used with incomplete or biased datasets that may lead to skewed
insights, particularly in areas impacting public services or vulnerable populations.
Agencies must ensure the data used is representative and accurate.

  • Displaying Personal or Confidential Information

Tableau AI cannot display dashboards or visualizations that include PII, confidential, or
classified data. Such use would violate privacy laws and data security protocols.

  • Hiding or Manipulating Data for Political or Personal Gain

Tableau AI cannot be used to intentionally hide or manipulate data to mislead
stakeholders, the public, or other government entities. Transparency and accuracy must
    always be prioritized.

  • Over-reliance on AI for Critical Decisions

Tableau AI cannot be used to automate or make critical decisions, such as in law
enforcement, welfare distribution, or healthcare allocations, without significant human
    oversight and verification.
